The Second Edition of the Las Vegas Filipino Short Film festival rolled out last 25th of October until the 27th. This time the venue was the Galaxy Theaters at the Boulevard Mall in Maryland Parkway. About forty short films from Nevada, from out of state and even from other countries vied for the expanded categories this year. The three days of film fora, special events and awards night activities provided a glimpse into the distinct Philippine culture that is the core of the filmfest itself.
But slowly creating a buzz, as the filmfest becomes an annual event that both film afficionados and the general public would watch out for is the deliberate branding created and the studious application it entailed. A full branding strategy by LUNA Design created images used for posters, pull up banners and other point of sales made sure the core value of the filmfest is present. Thus the image of Jose Rizal is ubiquitous and made contemporary. After all, we always connect the educational aspect of Filipino films to making the Filipino American youth aware and conscious of their roots and diaspora.
A special feature of awards night was the set created to represent a turn of the century home in the Philippines, where guests in their Filipiniana wear posed for photos, making the night not just a fun but memorable event.
